A multiple vehicle accident near Palm Beach in KZN has left six people, including a traffic officer, dead. Five members of an Alberton family are among the deceased.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid, told MooiVaal Media’s sister publication,  South Coast Herald, that three vehicles and a horse-and-trailer were involved in the crash, which occurred at around 1.30pm on December 29.

Our sister Caxton publication, Alberton Record, reports that the victims of this horrendous accident were Elsi Rademeyer (24), her mother Elaine, father Coert, sister Orpa and her brother-in-law Henk Barnard. Elsi’s brother, Coert Rademeyer, is the only surviving member of her immediate family.
The traffic officer who died, was on duty at a vehicle checkpoint at the time of the crash. Another three people have been seriously injured.

According to a Facebook post by the superintendent: law enforcement south, Jackson Mzindle, it appears as if a truck driver lost control near the Mpenjathi bridge and ploughed into the vehicles in front, but details are unconfirmed at this stage.

The road was closed for a substantial amount of time and traffic to and from Port Edward had been diverted to the Izingolweni Road.
