ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene at 08h00 and found that one taxi had t-boned another in the middle of the intersection. One taxi was found lying on its side while the other was found upright in the middle of the road.
On further inspection, paramedics found that the occupants had already climbed out of both vehicles and were now seated on the side of the road.
Local authorities had to close off the road to allow emergency services to work safely.
It was found that 28 people had been injured in this collision. 26 people had sustained minor to moderate injuries while two others had sustained more serious injuries.
Paramedics began their treatment and provided the seriously injured with advanced life support interventions.
Once treated, the patients were transported to various provincial hospitals for further treatment.
It is believed that both taxis failed to stop at the intersection.
Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
