The state opposed bail, arguing that it would put the lives of the woman and the baby in danger. During the court proceedings, the state informed the court that the woman had received a call from Segoto while in the holding cells before his court appearance. He warned her to drop the charges or he would kill her. The magistrate did not take the threat lightly. Before deciding whether or not to grant bail the magistrate issued certain conditions.
